Susanna Seriola-Vesa
Susanna Seriola-Vesa was born in Tampere, Finland and lives and works there. She studied at Helsinki University of Arts and Sciences (now Aalto University) and returned to her hometown after her studies.
Her actual profession is an interior architect, but drawing and painting have always been natural to her since childhood. She has been working purely as a visual artist since 1999 and since then has actively participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions.
“I paint rough and layered surfaces with acrylic colors, where figurative elements are often based on ancient history and mythology. I am fascinated by patinated and worn surfaces, frescoes and objects. When working on the bases, I add colors layer by layer, sometimes thinly and sometimes abundantly. In the end, this is how the tone, texture and liveliness I aim for, which make my works recognizable and unique, are formed.
Facial expressions of humans and animals, eyes and emotional states are important in my figures. We communicate by looking into each other’s eyes and subconsciously form mental images that are difficult to change after the first impression. I hope to convey emotional states and positive images to the viewers with my paintings.”
